Fantastic Fish Tacos

If you’ve never tried a fish taco, you’re in for a real treat. Fish tacos provide a traditional Mexican food taste that is a bit off the beaten path. Savory and versatile, fish tacos can be made from a variety of different fish. They can also be topped with just about anything you can imagine.

Breaded Fish Tacos: Light and perfectly crispy, breaded fish tacos are made from a piece of white fish that is dipped into a batter and deep fried. It is very similar to traditional fish and chips. Once the fish is cooked, it is a placed in a soft shell taco and topped with your choice of ingredients. Favorite toppings include chopped cabbage, Pico de Gallo and a white cream sauce made from a mayonnaise base.

Grilled Salmon Taco: Grilled salmon is a wonderful fish to use in tacos. The texture and meat of the salmon is best grilled rather than fried. Season your fish with something light, such as salt and pepper. You can also choose spices that are bold and pair well with salmon, such as a sprinkle of Ortega’s Fish Taco Seasoning Mix. Cooked salmon is easy to pull apart and can be used in both hard and soft tacos. Top with fresh ingredients like lettuce, tomato, and Mexican style cheese.

Fajita Style Fish Tacos are a delicious alternative. While fish is more delicate than steak and chicken, the fajita style taco can be created with fish that has a dense meat and does not easily flake. Halibut, tuna steak and Mahi Mahi are great examples of fish that keep their shape well after cooking. This allows you to toss them with a variety of sautéed vegetables. Cooking your fish and vegetables separate and mixing at the last moment will help combine your flavors while keeping the integrity of the fish. Then just spoon into wide taco shells, such as Ortega’s Fiesta Flats, and enjoy.

Shrimp Taco: Shrimp tacos made their way onto restaurant menus over the last decade or so. Similar to fish tacos, shrimp tacos combine fresh and simple tastes to make a taco that is bursting with flavor. Try your shrimp boiled, fried or grilled for a bit of variety. Top with your favorite ingredients, such as sour cream, fresh cilantro and salsa.

Fish tacos have become a favorite among Mexican cuisine lovers all over the world since they are so quick and easy to make. If you’re looking for a light and flavorful taco filling that is perfect for dinnertime, fish tacos are a wonderful meal for a quiet evening or for entertaining guests.
