This is a Mexican Style Casserole that is simple to make and simply delicious to the taste buds!

Corn Bread Tamale Pie


  • 2 tsps. vegetable oil
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1 can (10 3/4) condensed tomato soup
  • 1 cup frozen corn, defrosted
  • 1 can (4-oz) ORTEGA Diced Green Chiles
  • 2 tbls. chili powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 3/4 tsps. salt, divided
  • 3/4 cups corn meal
  • 1 tablespoon flour
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1/3 cup 2% milk
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil


Preheat oven to 425°F. Lightly spray a 2-quart casserole dish with vegetable cooking spray. Heat oil; add beef and sauté with onion until browned. Add soup, corn, chiles, chili powder, cumin and salt; simmer for 15 mins.

Pour mixture into prepared casserole dish .Set aside.

Combine cornmeal, flour, sugar, remaining salt, baking powder, egg, milk and oil. Stir until just moistened. Spread cornmeal mixture over beef mixture. Bake at 425°F for 15 to 25 minutes or until golden brown.
