Grandma's Baked Beans


  • 1 pound great Northern beans, dried; or navy beans
  • 8 ozs. salt pork or bacon, cubed
  • 1 cup chopped onion
  • 1 cup Grandmas Original or Robust Molasses
  • salt and ground black pepper to taste
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 2 cups ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon mustard


Rinse and soak beans overnight in cold water. Drain beans and place in saucepan. Cover with water and bring to boil. Reduce heat and simmer 1 hour. Drain.

Heat oven to 300°F. In oven-proof casserole over medium heat, sauté pork until crisp. Drain most of grease. Sauté onion in remaining fat until soft. Stir in all ingredients.

Cover casserole and transfer to oven. Bake 4-6 hours, stirring occasionally. Add hot water as needed to keep beans soupy at all times. Serve with country-style bread.
