Sure it's a cinch to buy a jar of salsa, but this recipe is almost as easy. It's packed with punch and worth the minimal effort.

Lean Salsa

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cup ORTEGA Diced Green Chiles
  • 1 teaspoon cumin, ground
  • 1/4 teaspoon white pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon garlic, diced
  • 1 1/2 cup plum tomatoes, diced
  • 1 cup red onion, diced
  • 4 tbls. cilantro, chopped
  • 3 tbls. (1 lime) lime juice**
  • 1 teaspoon sugar

Directions

*Recommended chile combination: 2 tablespoons diced jalapeno pepper, 2/3 cup diced pablano chile (1 chile), 3 tablespoon sweet Anaheim chile (1 chile), 2/3 cup diced sweet red pepper (1 pepper)

**Fresh squeezed, preferably

DIRECTIONS
COMBINE all the above ingredients, except the cilantro and refrigerate covered for at least one hour.
ADD freshly chopped cilantro 15 minutes prior to serving .
SERVE as a side dish/sauce for grilled chicken or with baked tortilla chips
