Refried Beans and Cheese Bread


  • 1 package yeast
  • 1 1/4 cup warm water
  • 1/4 teaspoon ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon sugar
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1/3 cup whole wheat flour
  • 2 tbls. wheat germ
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup ORTEGA Refried Beans
  • 4 ozs. processed cheese spread, diced


Dissolve yeast in warm water; set aside.

In a bowl, combine, ginger, sugar, flour, whole wheat flour, wheat germ, chili powder, and salt. Add the yeast mixture and knead until smooth and satiny, about 10 minutes. Knead in refried beans and diced processed cheese spread. Allow to rise, covered, in a warm place for 2 hours.

Punch down; place in a greased loaf pan, and allow to rise until doubled in bulk, about 1 hour.

Bake at 350 degrees for 20 to 30 minutes, or until golden brown.
