Spanish Bean Soup


  • 2 tbls. olive oil
  • 2 about 1/2 lb chorizo sausage, casings removed
  • 1 cup smoked ham, diced
  • 1 large 1 cup onion, chopped
  • 1/2 medium about 3/4 cup green bell pepper, chopped
  • 1 1/2 tablespoon POLANER Chopped Garlic
  • 4 cups water
  • 15 ozs. 1 can JOAN OF ARC Garbanzo Beans, undrained
  • 2 medium about 12 ounces baking potatoes, unpeeled, cubed
  • 1/2 teaspoon ACCENT Flavor Enhancer


In 3-qt saucepan over medium-high heat, in hot oil, cook sausage meat, ham, onion, pepper and garlic 10 to 15 minutes, breaking up sausage meat with a spoon, until onions are very tender but not browned. Stir in remaining ingredients; heat to boiling. Reduce heat; cover and simmer 20 minutes or until potatoes are tender. Makes 6 main-dish servings.

*Chorizo is a Spanish chile and garlic-flavored pork sausage. If unavailable, substitute hot Italian sausage meat.
